What is Design Defect | Insurance glossary by upcover

A Design Defect is an inherent flaw in the original design or specifications of a product that makes the product unreasonably dangerous for its intended use, regardless of how carefully it is manufactured. Design defects affect all products manufactured to that design, not just individual units. Establishing a design defect typically requires demonstrating that a safer alternative design was feasible and economically viable at the time of manufacture.
