What is Imported Product | Insurance glossary by upcover

An Imported Product is a product that has been brought into Australia from overseas for the purpose of sale, distribution, or supply in the Australian market. Under Australian Consumer Law, importers of products are treated as manufacturers for liability purposes where the actual manufacturer is not located in Australia. This means importers bear strict liability for safety defects in imported products and cannot contract out of this liability.
