Legal defence costs include solicitor and barrister fees, expert reports, and court expenses incurred in defending an insured against claims or investigations. In Australia, they are typically covered subject to insurer consent, and may be “in addition to” or "inclusive of" the limit of liability. Defence costs cover is intended to reduce the financial burden of high litigation expenses on insureds.
