Under section 6(1) of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), "Personal Information" is defined as information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether true or not. The key test is whether someone could reasonably be identified from the information, either on its own or when combined with other available data.This broad definition includes obvious identifiers like names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and government numbers (Medicare, driver's license), as well as health records, financial details, employment information, biometric and genetic data, photos, location data, and IP addresses.
