Whitelisting Protocol

Application whitelisting permits only explicitly authorised software to run on a system, preventing the execution of unapproved or malicious code. This is considered one of the most effective controls against malware and ransomware, as it blocks unauthorised programs regardless of whether they are recognised by signature-based antivirus tools. The Australian Signals Directorate's Essential Eight lists application control as the highest-priority control for preventing malware delivery and execution. Organisations that have implemented effective whitelisting protocols may benefit from reduced premiums and stronger claim positions, as the control significantly limits the attack surface available to threat actors.
